We are pleased to bring to North Platte, Nebraska an event to help fight breast cancer. Breast cancer comprises 11 percent of all cancer incidents among women, making it the second most common type of non-skin cancer after lung cancer. In 2009, breast cancer claimed approximately 600,000 lives. Someone is diagnosed with breast cancer every 3 minutes and someone dies from breast cancer every 14 minutes. Our mission is to help find a cure to put an end to breast cancer. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness, but more importantly, to raise funds for breast cancer research. How do we find a cure? Through research; but as we all know, research takes money. Please join us in this fight to help find a cure. We welcome anyone and everyone who is willing and able to participate in this event.
Proceeds from running to cure breast cancer events will go directly to the Bo Pelini Foundation Breast Cancer Research Fund. The fund was established at the University of Nebraska Foundation in 2008 as a means to support cutting edge breast cancer research here in Nebraska through the Eppley Cancer Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Nationally respected breast cancer clinicians and basic cancer researchers are supported by private charitable contributions and federal research grants earned for their expertise in novel research work to find better ways to diagnose, treat, and prevent breast cancer. Through the Bo Pelini Foundation’s annual Football 101 program, proceeds are donated each year to continue their support of this life-saving research and to deliver advance treatment throughout Nebraska.
